DeJesus is back to duty for the Royals

The centerfielder of the Kansas City Royals, David DeJesus is back to the baseball field after missing 11 games due to an ankle injury. He played for the team in the match against the Seattle Mariners on Monday. DeJesus had a twisted ankle on March 24th during the spring training, but he played the opening baseball match of the season at Detroit on March 30th. His condition aggravated during the match and he was under treatment since then.

David DeJesus got on to the field last week to test his ankle, despite bad weather and  said that he is feeling more confident about his cuts and other stuffs. He admitted that he rushed to the line up of the opening match after getting the injury in Arizona. Unfortunately that was a bad decision and he doesn’t want to repeat his mistake. So, he is making sure that he will be able to play without losing any timing and is practicing for achieving it.

Guillen Suspended No More!

The MLB has lifted Jose Guillen’s 15-day suspension earlier on today, to his fans’ immense delight (fans at baseballimo.com were also happy that Guillen need not miss any game play too!). He was previously suspended for violating Major League Baseball’s drug  prevention rules and regulations.

The obviously relieved Kansas City Royals left fielder was happy to put this unpleasant incident behind him and assures both fans and team mates alike that this issue will never repeat itself again, and he will never let this dampen him baseball playing spirits.

His suspension was thankfully lifted after the MLB and The Players Association came to an agreement to amend the drug policy that follows all of Senator George Mitchell’s recommendations. Kansas City Royals’ Manager Trey Hillman was also glad that this tiresome ordeal is now finally over and he hopes that this will not affect Jose Guillen’s three-year contract in the least.

Mike Stodolka- the first baseman of Royals

Mike Stodolka, who was a first–round pitcher in the year 2000, has been molded into the first baseman of the Kansas City Royals in 2008. He was selected as the best defensive opening baseman in the Texas League in 2007. He has evolved exceptionally well through these years and is in love with the game. At present, Mike Stodolka is in the Major League camp of Royals in Arizona. He is enjoying the position in Royals, as he is accorded with the privileges the seasoned stars in the team are receiving. He has been taken as a substitute in four matches and was able to make two hits, with a double.

He has been selected as the first baseman only three years ago. This left handed player had a good play for six seasons but was later faced with shoulder injury. In 2003, he underwent Tommy John surgery on his elbow. But things didn’t improve for him and he was in severe pain. The Royals signed him for a sum of $2.5 million based on his pitching record of 10-0 and 111 strikeouts in 52 innings. The director of player development, J.J Picollo of Royals is pleased with the good swing Mike is able to produce while hitting and that is the reason he is in the camp now.

New Season, New Team for Sweeney

It will be a new experience for Mike Sweeney this season as he says goodbye to the Kansas City Royals.  He officially agreed to a minor league contract with Oakland Athletics last Monday, Feb 11.  He also accepted an invitation from the club for spring training.

Mike Sweeney, an All-Star for four consecutive years in 2000 to 2003, and again in 2005, has played 13 seasons with the Royals.  He hit .299 and drove in about 83 runs six times.  He was drafted by the Royals in the 10th round in 1991.  In 2003, he became captain for the 2003 opener.  However, the 34-year old designated hitter and first baseman’s injuries had limited his plays.  In 2007, his right knee injury caused him to play 74 games, while in 2006 his back injury caused him to play 60 games only.

The Royals decided not to bring him back in 2008 because of Billy Butler, who gave a good performance last season as designated hitter when Sweeney had his injury.  But Sweeney is taking it all in good stride.  He said that he looked for other opportunities to play when Kansas City Royals showed that they weren’t thinking of bringing him back.  He said he’s going to miss his teammates, but it was time to move on.

No Suspension of Jose Guillen

Controversy surfaced yesterday regarding Guillen even before the Kansas City Royals were able to confirm that the player had been added to the roster. It was reported that union officials were negotiating with MLB officials on terms of a suspension for Jose Guillen that resulted from his alleged purchase of human growth hormone and steroids from May 2002 through June 2005. The report caught the Kansas City Royals off-guard and drew a quick denial from the league’s executive vice president for labor relations Rob Manfred.
