Former general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Dave Littlefield has joined the Chicago Cubs as an advanced scout. Littlefield aged 47, was fired by Pittsburgh after the Pirates went 442-581 for a .432 winning percentage in his six-plus seasons as general manager. During his long career, Dave with the Pirates, Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers. Hopefully, he will manage to do much for the Cubs this season.

The Brewers and the Mets have recently exchanged their players. Milwaukee sent catcher Johnny Estrada to the Mets and got reliever Guillermo Mota in exchange. Mota is a 34 year-old reliever who is coming off his ninth Major League season. His experience with the Mets ended up with 2-2 with a 5.76 ERA in 52 appearances after returning from a 50-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs. The Mets, in their turn, contracted Johnny Estrada to a two-year, $5 million contract that will pay $3.2 million in 2008.

National League. CINCINNATI REDS-Named Michael E. Anderson public relations manager for business operations.
HOUSTON ASTROS-Named Luis Pujols manager for Corpus Christi (Texas).
American Association. EL PASO DIABLOS-Agreed to terms with RHP Josh Neitz.
ST. PAUL SAINTS-Agreed to terms with OF Andre Marshall.
SIOUX FALLS CANARIES-Agreed to terms with LHP Josh Kite and LHP Ryan Ford.
Can-Am League. ATLANTIC CITY SURF-Agreed to terms with OF Chaz Lytle and INF Logan Christensen.
Northern League. JOLIET JACKHAMMERS-Named Wally Backman field manager.

Famous baseball players Bowie Kuhn (who died in March at the age of 80), Walter O’Malleyand 3 more were featured on the Baseball Hall of Fame while Marvin Miller, who faces different attitudes from different people, was snubbed. The reaction was quite ambiguous. The five elected will be incorporated into the Hall on July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y. They will be joined by any players elected in traditional voting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America to be announced Jan. 8.

With the MLB Winter Meetings about to start, here are some updates on the states of trade discussions for Johan Santana. According to a person close to the Minnesota Twins’ talks, the team is going to take a hard line in trade negotiations involving Johan Santana during this week’s meetings in Nashville. The Minnesota Twins have made their demands clear to the Red Sox, the New York Yankees and other teams interested in Johan Santana and they’ll not compromise.

Free agent Serafini was suspended for fifty games by MLB on Tuesday after the pitcher tested positive for a banned substance. Dan Serafini participated in three matches for the National League champion Rockies last year, spent the previous three and a half seasons pitching in Japan for the Chiba Lotte Marines and the Orix Buffaloes. He says it was there, where he was prescribed medicine that produced the positive tests.

The details of A-Rod’s revenue-sharing bonuses in his new New York deal finally have been agreed upon and approved by the MLB. If A-Rod attains all 5 of the $6-million bonuses, his total offer will be worth $305 million. The draft contract was agreed upon a couple of weeks ago with a base of ten years and $275 million. The bonuses were the most difficult points to agree upon, as the New York Yankees don’t typically include incentives for awards such as MVP or Gold Glove, and the baseball league doesn’t typically allow statistics-based bonuses.

A-Rod said that the talks concerning the contract with the Yankees are “in the bottom of the 5th inning.” Rodriguez did not go into detail but in a video interview with MLB.com, the player referred to negotiations that are leading toward a $275 million, ten-year deal with the New York Yankees. Alex also talked about how he approached the New York Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner to restart negotiations after Boras told the team Rodriguez was opting out of the final 3 seasons of his $252 million, ten-year deal
