The New York Mets seek starting rotation help out West in the form of Joe Blanton or Danny Haren. Given the New York Mets tried to get Joe Blanton last season for a package of Aaron Heilman and Lastings Milledge, it seems quite logical. The price may turn out to be higher as each of them has logged more service time, but it still seems like a good fit. Danny Haren’s price may be higher than Joe Blanton’s, and the latter may require more than Heilman and Milledge

The details of A-Rod’s revenue-sharing bonuses in his new New York deal finally have been agreed upon and approved by the MLB. If A-Rod attains all 5 of the $6-million bonuses, his total offer will be worth $305 million. The draft contract was agreed upon a couple of weeks ago with a base of ten years and $275 million. The bonuses were the most difficult points to agree upon, as the New York Yankees don’t typically include incentives for awards such as MVP or Gold Glove, and the baseball league doesn’t typically allow statistics-based bonuses.

In case Barry Bonds is going end he might never get booed again. The MLB, though, must carry on. Even if under a cloud that now seems to be darker than ever because of its home run king faces charges of obstruction of justice. There’s been a lot of cheating by probably hundreds of players over the last ten or fifteen years. It has become the biggest scandal in the history of the baseball league, and Barry Bonds is just one small piece of it.

The MLB season never ends. Several weeks after the final pitch of the WS, MLB officials are in Naples for the league’s annual owners meetings. Bud Selig, who flew into town yesterday morning, is also here. He will brief the press after a session today with the owners. MLB owners meet every three months to discuss matters relative to the game. Among the major topics the owners will likely discuss on Friday is the pace of the game. Major League Baseball might tweak a couple of rules to make them move faster.
